10 Forgotten 80s Bands Worth Rediscovering
3. The Adventures
They started in '84 and quietly disappeared in '93 but, during their lifetime, Northern Irish rockers The Adventures garnered an impressive run of hits. Taste is always subjective, but it's a genuine mystery as to why this group didn't find lasting success, particularly given that they were managed at the time by impresario Simon Fuller.
Fuller - now famous (or infamous) for creating the Idol series of TV shows (American, Pop, etc) - later guided the careers of The Spice Girls, Annie Lennox, Lisa Marie Presley and a host of other big names.
The Adventures comprised Terry Sharpe (vocals), Elleen Gribben, (vocals, violin), Gerry Murphy (guitar, percussion), Jonathan Whitehead (keys), Paul Crowdell (drums), Tony Ayre (bass) and Pat Gribben (guitar). Together, they released four albums, none of which enjoyed any significant chart success. Give their their dreamy, polished rock a listen and you may well wonder how this fine band have managed to fly so far under the radar.
