10 Forgotten 90s Rock Bands Worth Rediscovering

1. Elastica

Formed in London, in 1992, the UK's Elastica blended post-punk with new wave to lay down some notable music during their brief life-span. Their self-titled debut album made it to number one in their home country, but failed to replicate that success overseas.

Founded by ex-Suede alumni Justine Frishmann and Justin Welch (the only constant members), the band stirred up a fair amount of controversy, with accusations of plagiarism coming from multiple sources.

Post-punk greats Wire and The Stranglers separately accused Elastica of sailing a little too close to copying material from their respective work. Such things are common within the music world, however, and often hinge on subjective listening. Both cases were settled out of court.

Elastica issued one more album, 2000's The Menace, before disbanding, but still make this list due to the fact that their debut, falling as it does square in the middle of the 1990's remains one of the great under-heard records of that decade.

Elastica's spiky, quirky, uniquely English sound has aged very well, not least thanks to their wonderful hooks and distinctive production and arrangement. If you haven't heard them before, then you're in for a treat.
