10 Forgotten Punk Albums You Need To Redisover
8. The Victims – All Loud On The Western Front
The scuzzy punk of Australian act The Victims is pure sleaze on record, and all the better for it. While they gained notoriety for their rowdy act and single “Television Addict” in the late ‘70s, they never released a proper full length during their tenure as an active band.
In 1989, though, Timberyard Records released All Loud on the Western Front, taking the tracks from their self titled EP, now a real collectors’ item, and some odds and ends to create a garage punk classic.
The snotty “Television Addict” makes way for the cheerfully problematic “High School Girls”, whose subject matter you can likely assume from the title. It’s danceable and questionable in equal parts.
“Open Your Eyes” is a raw and raucous blast of punk, with the band chugging their way through a simple riff before a soaring chorus. Their most fascinating track of all, though, is the lengthy “Disco Junkie”, which begins in a cheeky Buzzcocks-esque fashion before falling off a cliff into a punk dirge, a band making noise for the sheer joy of doing so.
