10 Forgotten Punk Albums You Need To Redisover

2. Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Primary Colours

You can stake out your territory as a new punk band via a brave new sound or speaking truth to power. Easier, though, is the Eddy Current Suppression Ring route of grabbing attention through sheer volume. Their sophomore album Primary Colours was the talk of the town for a brief while on its 2009 release, but it’s not mentioned nearly so often these days.

That’s a huge shame, because beyond the speaker-blowing power of the Australian band’s music, there are some unforgettably catchy tracks on this album. “We’ll Be Turned On” adds a Monkees-esque organ to the band’s raucous stomp to gleefully goofy effect. “You Let Me Be Honest With You” takes a harder edged approach, with squawking guitars eventually giving way to Brendan Huntley’s anguished bark.

They set their stall out with the classic-sounding “Memory Lane”, all the swagger and confidence of a garage band who know they’ve got the goods. Best of all, though, is “Wrapped Up”, the band’s most sincere loved song, with Huntley switching his rough vocals for a sweet croon, just outside his vocal range and all the more honest for it.
