10 Forgotten Rock Music Gems From The 80s You Need To Rediscover
6. Bullet The Blue Sky - U2
Most of the late '80s pretty much belonged to U2. Ever since the release of War, it felt like these Irish lads were going to be the ones that would lead rock and roll into the next generation. Although The Joshua Tree probably doesn't have a single skippable track across its entire runtime, Bullet the Blue Sky definitely deserves a lot more love than it probably gets.
In case you didn't know, Bono isn't one to mince words on any of his songs, and the amount of genuine anger in his voice is palpable from the moment he opens his mouth. Being inspired by the thousands of people that are caught in between different fits of violence between government, it's almost like you're being put right in the middle of a sonic warzone, as the rest of the world calmly watches on.
Just listening to the guitar tracks alone; the Edge sounds more like he's conjuring up sounds of fighter planes overhead, as Bono starts spewing different statistics and criticizing just how far people will go to satisfy their greed. It's not like U2 didn't have a point either, going as far as to call out the apartheid going on around the same time they were recording this album when they took to the stage. The rich might be getting richer, but at some point you're going to have to ask at what cost.
