10 Forgotten Rock Music Gems From The 80s You Need To Rediscover

4. When We Was Fab - George Harrison

By the time that we reached the '80s, most of the rock community had come to terms with the fact that The Beatles were never going to be getting back together. Even so, that didn't mean John Lennon's tragic assassination in late 1980 didn't hit us right in the gut, almost comparable to losing a family member. We still may have been grieving, but the Quiet One at least gave us something nice to look back on.

Right before he made his late era comeback with the Traveling Wilburys, George Harrison's When We Was Fab is about as loving a tribute to Lennon as you could have hoped for. From the minute he starts singing, George isn't trying to hide his inspiration, almost as if he's writing a letter to John that he never got the chance to do when he was still alive.

There are even a few great tidbits for The Beatles enthusiasts as well, with the surviving Beatles chipping in during the album's production and even Ringo making a cameo in the video for the song as well. No amount of grieving is ever going to bring John back, but it's always nice to look back on what we had on our hands back in the day. We should never cry because it's over. Just smile because it happened.
