10 Funniest Tracks In Hard Rock
2. 665/667 - Soundgarden
Soundgarden have always been a band known for their heaviness. Coming out of the Seattle grunge scene in the early 90's, the band's ferocious stomp across albums like Loud Love and Badmotorfinger brought them notoriety as the Gen X answer to Led Zeppelin. At the same time, the band never took themselves as seriously as some would want to believe.
On the band's punkish leaning first record Ultramega Ok, two mysterious interlude tracks appear with the ominous numbers of "665" and "667." Both of the songs have backwards singing on them, leading some to believe that the band planted subliminal messages in their music. However, the members were quick to point out that each of these songs were nothing but good-spirited trolling.
The title of these tracks stem from the idea that if the devil's number 666 has demonic connotations, the numbers directly next to it must be pretty powerful as well. While there are indeed backwards vocals on the track, the subject matter is not that of Satan, but instead praises to...Santa. Although many people would be quick to call heresy on the grunge rockers, what they're missing is one of the heaviest musical praises to the King of Christmas.
