10 Great Covers Of The Beatles' Songs

2. Revolution - Grandaddy

The second entry on our list to have its origins in the 2001 film, I Am Sam (see: Strawberry Fields Forever – Ben Harper), this is a wonderful tribute from one quirky, adventurous band to another. Modesto, California group Grandaddy have released several notable albums of strikingly original, heartfelt music, and remain a must-listen for any fans of non-mainstream sounds.

The original Revolution appeared on The Beatles' classic White Album (1968). This is another song credited to the Lennon-McCartney partnership, and was inspired by a wave of political protests that same year. Lennon was sympathetic to those marching for change, but wary of the violent tactics endorsed by certain sectors within that movement.

Two Beatles' versions exist of this song, a faster take which was released as a pre-album single, and the slower recording which appeared on the White Album, three months later. Critics have noted the slight lyrical changes between the two. On the faster take, Lennon sings “count me out.” On the album take, he also sings “count me in.”

Grandaddy do a fine job of re-imagining this much-loved Beatles' number.
