10 Great Rock Songs Inspired By Death

9. One More Light - Linkin Park

When going into the recording for One More Light, Linkin Park intended for the entire record to be a more heartfelt experience. While the album has been extremely hit or miss with fans of the band, you can hear the kind of shift that the band were making towards conventional pop songs, saying that they were making the record for their kids more than anything else. They did have a tribute song to their former business partner, but it makes that much of a difference once life gets in the way.

Just listening to the first few bars of the title track, you can tell that this is the kind of heartfelt song that LP are so great at delivering, with Chester pouring every bit of emotion out of his voice. The whole thing seems like it's ripped straight out of the band's heart, but no one could have predicted what would happen just a few months after the album was released.

In the wake of other rock giants like Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington took his own life in July of 2017, which put Linkin Park's future in jeopardy and marking this album as a final chapter in this era of the band. Rock stars aren't afraid to shy away from heavy topics every now again, but it's another matter entirely when it hits this close to the bone.
