Back in the 80s, Boy George was an incredibly hot commodity as part of English band Culture Club. But he also branched out into a solo career at a time when music journalists were trying to out-do each other's savage review, adding more and more venom to their words. So naturally, Melody Maker journalist Jon Wilde went after one of George's singles, saying "I'd rather have my bollocks nailed to the wall in a nightclub than listen to this spunk drivel." In all likelihood, Wilde only disliked the track a little, but he just had to go for the throat. Ya know... to keep his journalistic integrity. George responded in kind, sending a typed poem back to Wilde that completely tore the reviewer a new one. He also turned that little "love letter" into a B-side called "You Are So Wild." (Get it!? Wild = Wilde! Hey, I never said it was a subtle comeback.) At concerts, George would reportedly introduce the song by saying "This is for that scumbag at Melody Maker." So, again, not the most covert attack. Apparently Wilde was a good sport about it, though, only lamenting that he was offended it wasn't a proper A-side.
