10 Greatest British Hard Rock Bands
2. Queen
Most bands find it comfortable to stay in their own musical lane. For as much great music is out there, usually its fine just to find your greatest strengths and cultivate them. Queen may have found their lane on their first few records, but over time they ended up dominating nearly every genre they got their hands on.
Over their vast discography, the band have toyed with everything from heavy metal to prog rock to classical tunes to even pop and disco. That kind of transitioning seems like an absolute mess on paper, but the band were able to make it work thanks to the excellent musicianship at play. While Freddie Mercury rightfully deserves every accolade he receives as one of the greatest frontmen of all time, Brian May is just as important, taking his guitar and turning it into a one-man orchestra, complete with dual harmonies and ferocious shredding.
With Roger Taylor's backing vocals providing a foundation and John Deacon's solid bass work, the band was virtually a supergroup of god-like proportions. Many hard rock bands can boast a certain song or album as their classic, but when it comes to Queen, you almost need to devote a whole section of rock history to their impact. Some bands may be more innovative than Queen, but I defy you to find any other band more beloved than these four musicians.
