10 Greatest Classic Rock Songs Of The 1980s

8. Hells Bells - AC/DC

There was definitely a lot on AC/DC's mind when the band released their album Back In Black. With newcomer Brian Johnson at the mic after the tragic passing of their iconic frontman Bon Scott, this next album could mean the dawn of a new era or the start of their descent into obscurity. From the first toll of the opening track's bell, the band were resurrected before your very ears.

As the bell starts you off, Angus Young's throaty guitar captivates you before the initial groove sends you off on a midtempo crunch. The lyrics from Johnson are an open hearted letter to Scott from beyond the grave, almost as if he's trying to conjure up the former singer's blessing for the band to carry on. Instead of switching up the tempo or blasting your eardrums out too much, this song acts as more of an unveiling of a new group.

These aren't hungry punk kids out for a good time but adults who have weathered the cold embrace of death and made it to the other side. We may never know what Bon Scott would have done had he lived, but it's almost certain that he'd be proud of the legacy that his rock and roll brethren have accomplished through the years.
