10 Greatest Classic Rock Songs Of The 1980s
2. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2
When musical genres were shifting left and right, there was no real sound that you could pin down that defined 80's rock. On the other hand, U2 would most likely have been in talks of Band of the Decade given their meteoric rise to stardom.
After the band performed at Live Aid, the tides for this Dublin group began to shift towards rock god territory. Once the band started working with Brian Eno, the band unveiled their bold vision with the Joshua Tree. While many of the songs on the album could have made this list, there's something about "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" that gets right to your soul.
The entire track feels like the start of some revolution, with the Edge's guitars setting the scene. Though taken from a traditional tune, Bono's melody grabs onto your heartstrings as he pleads for some type of human connection. The typical rock backing track works well for this song already, but the actual gospel choir brought in to fill out the sound give the song an even bigger weight. U2 were already a band that could change music, but this song showed even more potential lying beneath the surface. Forget just music...this was a band that could change the world.
