10 Greatest Closing Tracks In Metal

7. Daddy - Korn

Nu metal has gotten a pretty nasty reputation in the metal world as a genre all about whining and complaining. While the first seeds of nu metal planted by acts like Rage Against the Machine felt like a call to arms between the musicians and the listener, later acts just felt like using their platform to talk about how hard it was being a teenager in an attempt to relate to the younger demographic. However, Korn was the first of their kind to show just how dark a person can get on Daddy.

Running at almost 20 minutes, this almost feels less like a song and more like an emotional catharsis, as we see frontman Jonathan Davis at the end of his rope. Inspired by his experiences being abused as a child, you can feel the pure pain emanating from the back of Davis's throat, as he goes off on his abuser and on his parents for not believing him for what had happened.

This was also one of the tougher tracks to record as well, with Davis breaking down on the final take and the rest of the band coming together in a group hug in an attempt to calm him down after the take was finished. While Daddy may still hold up as a brilliant piece of art in metal, no one can forget the raw pain that it took to actually bring it to life.
