10 Greatest Debut Albums Of All Time

8. 'The Doors' by The Doors

Surely you're familiar with the Doors. Whether you like them or not, it's difficult to not be well aware of their legacy, in addition to lead singer Jim Morrison's notorious onstage behaviour. Odds are you can also name many, many of their songs. However, it's interesting to note how many of those classics are featured on this one lone work. Through songs such as "Break On Through", "Soul Kitchen", and "Light My Fire" they weaved hypnotic lyrics and rhythms with solid drum work, brilliant guitar pieces, and some of the craziest organ sounds ever laid to a record. Of course, no review about their stellar debut would be complete without a mention of "The End", what is arguably the finest album closer of all time. This mammoth 11-minute song began as an ode to Morrison's ex-girlfriend, but quickly evolved into... um, no one is really sure. One widely accepted belief is that the song is a goodbye to childhood or innocence (a belief which is helped by its placement in Apocalypse Now). But when Morrison himself was asked about its meaning, he replied "I really don't know." Whatever its meaning, this song is an immortal work, and is the perfect closer to one of the all-time greatest albums. Album Cover:
