10 Greatest Diss Tracks In Rock Music History
3. Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
In the early '70s, most of the greatest rock bands on the charts were normally coming out of England. Outside of a few bands like the Doors making waves in California, all of the big names like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath had to be imported for most of us Yanks. And then we get the sweet psychedelic sounds of Aerosmith, complete with a list of complaints from Steven Tyler.
Outside of the amazing bassline that hypnotizes you when it comes in, most of the lyrics were inspired by Steven Tyler getting more and more agitated with Joe Perry's girlfriend Elyssa. Since Joe would routinely be late to rehearsals and spend most of his time with his new flame, Tyler used most of this song to vent his frustration, from talking about things that nobody cares about to wanting to get as far away from her as he possibly can.
Looking back on it now though, Tyler had a more nefarious reason for being angry at Elyssa, saying that she was doing all of Joe's drugs at the time, which he thought was selling him short. That's the unwritten law behind drug addicts in the '70s though. When you get robbed of your high, you'll stoop to as low as you can possibly go.
