1. Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Track List: 1. Solitude 2. Demon's Gate 3. Crystal Ball 4. Black Stone Wielder 5. Under the Oak 6. A Sorcerer's Pledge
Recommended Track: ALL OF IT! Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is a monumental record, staggeringly heavy, yet balanced by Johan Lanquist mournful, baritone vocals (strangely, his only appearance on a Candlemass record). Released at a time when their contemporaries were playing at breakneck speeds and screaming in a high-pitched frenzy, Candlemass differed drastically and embraced sluggish, doomy riffs and a style that was all their own; make no mistake, this is Doom Metal distilled to its purest essence, exhibiting a courageous, pioneer spirit which challenged convention at every step. Unfairly ignored on release, many subsequent re-issues saw the record finally gaining deserved recognition for its epic feel and a heaviness that defies description. Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is
the classic Doom Metal album and we should all worship at the feet of these riff writers
par excellence.
