Recommended Track: Born Too Late, Doom Metals Anthem. On Born Too Late, Saint Vitus summed up the genre better than anyone:
'I know I don't belong And there's nothing I can do I was born too late And I'll never be like you'
Doom Metal announced its arrival in the Metal world at the worst possible time and Saint Vitus knew it. They didn't fit in, their music wasn't 'popular' and their image was archaic. Despite these obstacles they persevered and an American classic and a bona fide Doom Metal masterpiece was born. Led by the eternally busy Scott "Wino" Weinrich, a man who has arguably done more to promote the genre than any other, his band played sludgey Black Sabbath worshipping riffs which retained elements of groove and melody without sacrificing the lead weight atmosphere. This doom laden epic was released during a decade that embraced excess, spandex and an overuse of annoying keyboards - thankfully Saint Vitus were there to re-address the balance!
