10 Greatest Drummers In Rock Music History
1. Neil Peart - Rush
One of the sad realities of a musician is that you'll never be able to reach perfection in anything you do. Since we're all still human, there's always going to be that one drum fill that's just out of our skill set or a rhythm that never fully sits that well in our brain. At the end of the day, we're all still students, and it's about time that we all pay our due respect to the Professor.
From the minute that Neil Peart stepped behind the drum kit for Rush, he played like he had everything to prove on each album. Across their varied history, Peart never once tried to settle on a pattern that worked, sprinkling in bits and pieces of jazzy fills in their glory years and eventually adopting the new electronic sounds of the '80s as the years went on.
Like all men though, Peart was always looking to improve, going so far as to work with Freddie Gruber and switching around his grip of the stick to make for a more organic sound for Rush. Because as precise as the drum hits feel on every Rush song, you can always hear the human being inside the music.
Although the Professor may not be here to teach us anymore, he has left behind the rulebooks for how to become a true superhuman behind the kit.
