10 Greatest Ever Stone Roses Songs

3. What The World Is Waiting For

Released together, as a double A side, with Fool’s Gold, the knowingly titled What The World Is Waiting For was less revelatory. While Fool’s Gold saw the band exploring new and exciting sonic possibilities, What The World Is Waiting For was just another Stone Roses single.

That is to say it’s “just” another brilliant slice of hook laden guitar pop that will worm its way into your brain and take up residence.

The lyric finds the band casting a cynical eye over whipped donkeys dragging ploughs and a man who would sell his brother for a fistful of gold. The meaning is all typically vague but the words add a defiant edge to the euphoric music.
