3. Stan - Eminem
With the Internet at our fingertips, there has been more exposure for what is now known as toxic fandom. In 2000, Eminem took his newfound fame to shed light on the horrors that come with this sort of obsessive behavior.
Across "Stan"'s runtime, we get to know this eponymous character as someone who is obsessed with Slim Shady. He writes him every day and becomes more and more disgruntled when he doesn't write back.
With each letter, we get a look into Stan's life, as he is an unstable fan who cuts himself and has a pregnant girlfriend who he mistreats. When Slim fails to write back, Stan loses it and proceeds to tie up his girlfriend, throw her in the trunk of his car, and sends a last message to Slim as he runs his car off a bridge into a river.
By the time Slim finally writes back, it's too late and he finds out on the news that Stan had taken his own life before Slim could have gotten a message to him. This look at the dark side of fandom has become one of rap's legendary tracks and is a must-listen for anyone interested in the more macabre side of hip hop.
