When Slim fails to write back, Stan loses it and proceeds to tie up his girlfriend, throw her in the trunk of his car, and sends a last message to Slim as he runs his car off a bridge into a river.

By the time Slim finally writes back, it's too late and he finds out on the news that Stan had taken his own life before Slim could have gotten a message to him.
