10 Greatest Female Hard Rock Guitarists
5. Nita Strauss - Alice Cooper
You don't really get to hear about female supershredders all that often. Whenever you bring up people who can tear through one epic solo after another, many tend to gravitate towards the Eddie Van Halens of the world to get the job done. There are, of course, exceptions to the rules though.
Starting at the beginning of the 2010's, Nita Strauss has been making waves as one of the greatest guitarists of her generation. While originally getting her start in the all-female Iron Maiden tribute act the Iron Maidens, Strauss has been known as one of the most reliable hired guns in the business. Rather than the typical singer-songwriter mold of most female rockers, Strauss's style is firmly as a guitar hero, where she wails on everything from bluesy runs to arena sized flashiness. Getting the attention of one of the kings of hard rock, Strauss saw her first big success when playing opposite Alice Cooper in 2014. Though Alice's legacy is all but secure at this point, his old classics have been given a real kick in the ass ever since Strauss got behind the fretboard.
Even outside of the regular festival circuit, Nita has also been known as being one of the leaders of the house band for the Los Angeles KISS arena football act when away from her main gigs. At a time when rock is looking more passe at every turn, Nita Strauss has been a breath of fresh air for the entire hard rock scene.
