10 Greatest Hair Metal Albums Of All Time
6. Night Songs - Cinderella
Cinderella tends to get brought up in conversation when people talk about hair metal getting too out of hand. From the heavily sequined clothes to the pouty expressions they were making on their album covers, this just felt like yet another band trying to do their best imitation of what the Sunset Strip sounded like. However, when you threw on Night Songs, no metalhead was happier to be proven wrong.
Compared to other contemporaries like Warrant or Winger, these are some quality songs on here with a definite attitude in their delivery. As the first track pulls you in, there's a dark groove laced throughout these cuts, with vocalist Tom Keifer channelling a mix between Janis Joplin, Bon Scott, and Steven Tyler at the same time. Even though some of the melodies might sound familiar on first listen, you can tell this a guy who has done his homework writing songs and is ready to reach for the gold.
Adding in just a little bit of rootsy rock to taste, this was at least a sign that hair metal didn't necessarily have to be tied down to one specific sound anymore. Cinderella ended up getting banished to the Island of Misfit Hair Bands during the '90s, but it's a wonder why we never got another slamming record later down the line.
