10 Greatest Hard Rock Album Openers

5. Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin are such a great albums band that nearly half of this list could have been filled with their cuts. From the youthful blues aggression of "Good Times Bad Times" to the bombastic scope of "Achilles Last Stand," every single album by these guys has something fantastic to offer right out of the gate. However, if there's one song that is Zeppelin in a nutshell, it has to be "Whole Lotta Love."

Like all good Zeppelin tracks, the main focus is Jimmy Page's guitar riff, which has just the right balance of sleazy and simple to make it absolutely irresistible. With this only being the band's second record, everyone is on their A-game, from Robert Plant's lowdown blues yelps to some of the most maniacal drum fills that John Bonham had ever played up to this point.

Even with all of the great elements at play, this song also showed a turning point for Zeppelin, with the middle of the track being dominated by effects constructed by Page before giving the listener one of the most tasteful guitar solos of the 70's. There was no question that Zeppelin was a great band, but once the hard rock masses sunk their teeth into this, the band had become one of the greatest quartets in the rock world.
