10 Greatest Hard Rock Frontmen Of The '80s
7. Dee Snider - Twisted Sister
In the early '80s, hair metal was still just a vision in many people's minds. With MTV not quite a household name yet, the era of glam rock and new wave was still the order of the day, with bands getting weirder and weirder by the minute. The bizarre idea of Twisted Sister may have been too much for some to handle, but when you had Dee Snider out front, you hardly needed to worry.
Coming out of the East Coast club scene, the band's initial schtick was a tough guy approach to glam, with most of the band looking like bikers in drag. However, things took a bit of different turn once MTV came calling. All of a sudden, that crazy music had serious hooks, with Snider becoming the writer of anthems like "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock."
Though anyone can work magic in front of a camera, Dee's rapport onstage was much flashier, as he seemed to pull the audience out of their skin with his energy. From one song to the next, there was no one in the crowd who wasn't losing their minds, mainly due to the verbal ass-beating you'd get from Dee if you were spotted in the corner. Even when they called it a day after the death of drummer AJ Pero, Twisted Sister was always a party from start to finish, with Dee Snider as your unholy Master of Ceremonies.
