10 Greatest Hard Rock Songs Of 2020
9. Samantha's Gone - Corey Taylor
It seems like people have been talking about Corey Taylor's solo record before it was even an idea. With his star being on the rise as both the singer in Slipknot and Stone Sour, it's been nearly a decade that Taylor has teased us with solo material in his acoustic shows. Even though Stone Sour gives the Great Big Mouth some relief from Slipknot, it turns out that straight up rock and roll is a good look on him as well.
Despite being on a little bit of shaky ground on the song CMFT Must Be Stopped, Samantha's Gone is one of the most feel-good rock songs that Corey has ever written. Set to the subject matter of love lost, this song is so damn happy that it almost sounds like it could be playing over the opening credits to a '90s sitcom.
Before any Taylor fans get angry though, this is the greatest kind of nostalgia you could possible ask for, as Corey layers vocal harmonies on top of one another to create one of the greatest choruses of the year. This is the equivalent of all of the harmony work of something like Alice in Chains, only brought to their sunniest conclusion. While there's a lot of anger and spite inspiring Slipknot's work at the best of times, who said the Corey couldn't have fun every now and again?
