8. Bum Rush - Body Count
If there was one thing that the hard rock community wants to forget from this year, it's the downfall of Trapt. Even though these guys were pretty middle of the road at the best of times, the infamous tirades leading to the dismissal of vocalist Chris Brown seemed long overdue by the end of the year. If you want to see what it's really like to be a badass, you just got to look to what Body Count has been doing.
Granted, it's not like Ice-T has had metal music as his No. 1 priority as of late, with him still being a fixture of Law and Order: SVU. Then again, the return of his rap rock band from back in the day had one of the greatest comebacks of the year on Bum Rush, as he brings the most chilling performances he's laid down in years, be it hip hop or metal.
While the message is clearly indebted to the modern times, T doesn't mince words when describing the pure anger and hostility that comes with being oppressed. This is not for the faint of heart, but it's not really supposed to be either. Whereas some songs might be fun to blast in your car for the hell of it, this is the kind of pointed social commentary that would make Rage Against the Machine proud.
