10 Greatest Hard Rock Songs (Without Vocals)
8. Miasma - Ghost
It's hard not to think of Ghost as somewhat of a throwback to days gone by. As opposed to other heavyhitters on the metal scene like Mastodon and Suicide Silence, this feral approach to shock rock feels like it's being brought out of the same swamp that gave us stuff like Alice Cooper and KISS back in the day. Then again, not even the most shocking of shock rock acts would have dared to take on something like Miasma.
While most of Prequelle involves some heavy sing along tunes like Dance Macabre and Rats, this is where we really get to see the fretboard work come out in full force. Though most of the Ghost show revolves around Cardinal Copia out in center stage, this track shows why those faceless ghouls are necessary, with every single riff sounding like a descent to hell and back up again.
But they're not done there though. As opposed to just the typical nice track to lead you into the next song, the weird saxophone break at the very end is what really sends the song over the top.
Whereas most of this track is something that you might find on the soundtrack to a really good gothic video game, that horn line is what really solidifies the magical silliness that is Ghost.
Say what you want to about the outfits, but this kind of amazing musical flex is something that isn't going to dull with age.
