10 Greatest Headbanging Metal Songs
6. Laid to Rest - Lamb of God
The age of heavy riffs seemed to have somewhat of a career resurgence at the beginning of the '00s. After the start of the '90s made headbanging feel like a lost art, the nu metal boom gave way to acts whose only goal was to make your head nod, whether it was the off-kilter sounds of Korn or the adrenaline rush you would get off of a Slipknot joint. Despite nu metal's penchant for heavy riffs, Lamb of God brought the groove back into metal music.
As it stands, Laid to Rest is a fairly complicated song when broken down, but when you combine it with Chris Adler's drumbeat, everything starts to fall into place. From the second the song starts, Mark Morton has you by the throat, with a riff set at a medium tempo that makes for a great double time head nod. By the time Randy Blythe actually comes in with his venomous growl, you're already sold on this delightfully heavy cocktail.
Lamb of God have always held on to their punk roots when playing their music, and this is one of those songs that knows how to combine the simplicity of a punk thrasher with the subtle intricacies of metal music. For anyone who thought nu metal was the straw that broke the camel's back....no. This was the dawn of a whole new age.
