3. Sparks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH5USLpPa_0 Sparks' genre-defying output is seldom rivaled. Brothers Ron and Russell Mael have gone from the Visconti glam style of the early 70s to Moroder disco to frantic power pop to the baroque arrangements of 2002's "Lil' Beethoven." They have delved into numerous aesthetics and claimed them all. One of the high points of the band's storied career is 1982's "Angst in My Pants" which pokes at many ideas including Western notions of masculinity. It is a startling document that both celebrates and skewers the excesses of the decade, showing the duo at their most irreverent. The Mael Brothers' chaotic sense of humor can be seen in artists such as Kurt Cobain, They Might Be Giants, Ween, MGMT, and Frank Ferdinand, who joined with Sparks for this years "FFS." Sparks have been performing their brand of chaotic humor for five decades at this point and show very few signs of slowing down.
