10 Greatest One Hit Wonders Of The 1980s
4. Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
The ideal soundtrack song feels like it's becoming a lost art at this point. While you do have your songs like Shallow that eclipse the movie they're a part of nowadays, you aren't going to see as many song features in the latest Avengers joint any time soon. In the golden age of movie themes though, Survivor managed to build a career out of one of the greatest pump up anthems of all time.
While originally set to a Queen song earlier in production, Rocky III turned in some musical magic with Eye of the Tiger, with a riff that feels like a rocket about to take off. The song itself isn't too shabby either, fitting comfortable in the era of rock and roll right before we transitioned into the hair metal scene.
Although this song managed to spread like wildfire, that's not to say it was safe from the overplay that it received, with pretty much every pump up montage going forward featuring Survivor's biggest hit in some capacity. It doesn't even look like Survivor themselves have made any progress past this one song either, with most of the band fading behind the scenes or going back to day jobs. Even though this may seem a bit cheesy, it has become a jock jam for a damn good reason.
