10 Greatest Pop Punk Albums In Rock History
7. Riot! - Paramore
The number one rule about having a great pop punk band is that the songs sound a little bit messy. Even though there's a strong emphasis on the pop side of that genre, having the guitars crunch and a singer who's a bit rough around the edges helps build the character behind your band. As the genre opened up in the mid '00s though, we were about to be rocked by an absolute powerhouse behind the mic on Riot!.
For all of the great work done by the Farro Brothers and Jeremy Davis on this record, Hayley Williams is the MVP of this entire album, with a vocal range that most other pop punk acts can only dream of having. Before anyone starts calling this 'the pop punk band with the girl in it' though, the songs on here are absolutely kick ass as well, like the pure anger on Misery Business or the different switchups in tempo going on in That's What You Get.
This is another case of a pop punk band doing something a little different with the genres, going from some more downtempo material like When It Rains and even bringing out the acoustics on the track Fences. You can call some pop punk bands out for being repetitive, but this is the kind of album that has a lot more going for it than just a couple of flashy hooks.
