10 Greatest Pop Punk Albums In Rock History

5. Take Off Your Pants and Jacket - Blink 182

If you were to pinpoint the moment where pop punk hit its stride, it was with Blink 182. While you had bands in the '90s that were slowly planting the seeds of the genre, it wasn't until Enema of the State that everyone got on the bandwagon of singing songs like All the Small Things. Though that record has become the soundtrack to mall punk across the world, they actually managed to go that much further on Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.

Going in originally with the intention of creating a post hardcore sounding record, the band decided to double down on their traditional sound and got away with a lot more this time. Outside of the more traditional radio hits like the Rock Show and First Date, opener Anthem Part Two is one of the first times Blink tackle a more serious subject matter, as Tom DeLonge calls out the older generation for not giving kids a voice.

And if Adam's Song didn't prepare you enough for the more somber material, Stay Together for the Kids feels like the entire concept of adolescence condensed into a single song, with Tom and Mark Hoppus trading verses and choruses to create this primal scream of anger. It may have been called childish back then, but they did end up hitting on something really powerful this time around.
