10 Greatest Posthumous Rock Songs

7. She Couldn't - Linkin Park

2017 was not a pleasant year for the world of hard rock. While the actual albums being put out ranged from good to OK, the real gut punch came in the spring, where we lost Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and later Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. After paying tribute to one his grunge heroes, the most pure voice in nu metal had died by his own hand.

Though the rest of Linkin Park struggled to pick up the pieces of their shattered dream, fans showed up in droves to mourn their fallen titan. For a while, things were pretty quiet on the Linkin Park front...until we got a few surprises this year with the re-release of their monumental album Hybrid Theory. People may have expected a few rough demos or the tapes getting remastered, but the real surprise came when a brand new song called She Couldn't surfaced online.

After a few years without him in our lives, it's so refreshing to hear those trademark angsty pipes back in the world again, as Bennington sells every second of time he has on this track. Although this would have fit perfectly on Hybrid Theory, this little Easter Egg is exactly what fans needed to keep the image of Chester alive. Even if Linkin Park never does anything beyond a few reissues of their back catalog, I'm just glad that something like this exists for us all to hear.
