10 Greatest Queen Songs
7. Another Bites The Dust
Best known in the '70s for their rock epics, Queen made concerted and often successful attempts to move with the times. Queen were never going to become a punk rock band but they responded to that movement with the straight ahead rock of Sheer Heart Attack and the stripped back stomp of We Will Rock You.
Similarly, Another One Bites The Dust, which is tight, sparse and irresistibly danceable, is Queen displaying the influence of funk and disco. Inspired by his time spent hanging out in the studio with Chic, John Deacon’s timeless bass line could almost have stormed the charts all on its own.
Deacon, who wrote the song, also played guitar and piano on it. He took charge in the studio, spelling out to Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury exactly what he wanted from the drums and vocals. This was something of a tour de force for Queen’s most unsung member.
Freddie credited Michael Jackson with persuading the band to put this one out as a single. It became one of their biggest hits.
