10 Greatest Rock Albums That Are Totally Acoustic
5. In Your Honor (Disc 2) - Foo Fighters
By the mid '00s, Dave Grohl was really looking for a change of scenery. After the initial sessions for the Foo Fighters' One by One pushed the band to the brink, Grohl started to write songs that had a much more bare bones structure to them. What to do about the next Foos record though? Make two at the same time.
In essence, the first side of In Your Honor is the same Foo Fighters you've come to expect, with Grohl bringing the riffs on songs like No Way Back and Best of You. The real beauty though comes in the second disc, which is some of the most serene rock and roll that you would ever get from the rock community. Starting with Still, this is a much more somber affair for Grohl, as he reflects on fatherhood on Miracle and even coming to terms with the death of Kurt Cobain on Friend of a Friend.
There are even more dramatic left turns on the back half of the disc, with Taylor Hawkins having a crack on the mic on Cold Day in the Sun and Norah Jones showing up for a more jazz influenced tune on Virginia Moon. Though the Foos would eventually morph these two sides of themselves together on Echoes Silence Patience and Grace, this is still a welcome alternative from the stadium anthems.
