10 Greatest Rock Bands With Two Guitar Players
3. The Beatles
For all of the accolades that the Beatles have gotten over the years, it's no secret that they weren't the greatest guitar players in the world. John Lennon has mentioned time and again about how illiterate he was playing guitar, and George Harrison was never known to be all that flashy throughout their early years either. There might not have been any Eddie Van Halen leads or anything, but both John and George knew one lesson that most guitarists forget: SERVE THE SONG.
If you look through every single Beatles song, the guitar is always right where it needs to be, always playing the necessary lead break and never using the song as an excuse to just show how technical they can be. While John Lennon may have been fairly limited with his rhythm parts, he had a lot of power driving the band forward, with his steady sense of rhythm making the band come alive on everything from ballads to rave up songs from their early years. And as much as George gets credit as the Quiet Beatle, his guitar parts did most of the talking for him, crafting leads that you could sing along to just as well as the vocal melody.
Reaching the level of guitar god seems impossible for most of us, but sometimes you don't need to have the right guitar, right affects, or even the right solo to become a legend. You just need to have a good song at the center of it all, and the Beatles were more keen to focus on making the track better instead of showboating.
