10 Greatest Rock Instrumentals
4. Ballad of Beaconsfield Miners - Foo Fighters
Throughout his tenure as the frontman of the Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl has gotten somewhat of a reputation as the Tom Hanks of rock and roll. With his irresistible charm and quick wit, the dude has become one of the nicest guys in the entire genre. Even when he started writing an instrumental for the band's next album, Good Guy Grohl couldn't help but pop up once again.
While making the acoustic segment, Grohl had gotten word of a story out of Australia where a mine shaft had caved in, leaving two miners trapped. When the crew established contact with the miners, one of them requested nothing more than some water and an iPod with the Foos' latest album. Grohl was taken aback by the impact his music had had on this guy that he decided to dedicate the song to him the next time they played in the area and eventually included it on their next album.
Shortly after the album was released, Grohl also reached out to the miner and asked if he wanted to grab a beer or something that next time he was around. It may have been a simple gesture, but this instrumental marked both a departure in the band's sound and another example of Grohl's nice-guy attitude.
