10 Greatest Rock Instrumentals
2. Switch 625 - Def Leppard
Def Leppard have been known to be on the poppier side of hard rock for years now. With albums like Hysteria and hits like "Pour Some Sugar On Me," the band weren't exactly the most digestible group for the average Led Zeppelin or Judas Priest fan. At the same time, the band's work on High N Dry showed they did know how to kick some ass.
While this album is known for giving the band their first huge power ballad with "Bringin on the Heartbreak," the record gets much more exciting once "Switch 625" kicks in. Going right out of "Heartbreak," this song is a guitar odyssey from Steve Clarke, who trades licks with former Leppard guitarist Pete Willis. The way the song builds in sonic power makes you feel like you're about to witness a rocket take off at full speed, as the guitars chug away and continue to reach higher and higher.
By the time the final guitar harmonies come out, you are sent into a musical frenzy as you begin to practically soar above the skies. So next time people get all up in arms about Def Leppard being a "pop band," play them this track to show them the power that they're missing out on.
