10 Greatest Rock Music Cover Songs Of The 2000s

1. No Quarter - Tool

The idea of Tool covering Led Zeppelin’s No Quarter was first attached to a 1996 comedy film called Private Parts, which tells the story of shock jock supreme Howard Stern. However, Tool pulled out of the project, and the song ended up being released as part of a box set in the year 2000.

And thank God it did.

No Quarter was already a dark song, but Tool took it and twisted it almost entirely beyond recognition. They made it 11-and-a-half minutes long for starters, padding it out with screeching guitar solos and the band’s usual combination of menacing bass riffs and clanging drums.

It’s exactly how you think a Tool version of Led Zeppelin song sounds; nasty, but immaculately arranged and performed, with its fantastical lyrics taking on an entirely new meaning. Maynard James Keenan and chums knock it right out of the park with this one, giving an incredible song by an incredible band the weight and respect it deserves.

And to think, this could have been known as a song on the soundtrack to a Howard Stern movie. Imagine.
