10 Greatest Rock Music Guitar Solos Of The 2000s

2. Slither - Velvet Revolver

Part of the reason why Guns N’ Roses didn’t put out a single studio album between 1993 and 2008 was because their key members kept leaving.

Guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan left in the late 90s, both pursuing personal projects before coming back together in 2002 to form a group called Velvet Revolver. Along with other names like ex-GNR drummer Matt Sorum and Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, Velvet Revolver released their debut album Contraband in 2004. With it came this song - Slither.

Slash was no stranger to great solos by this point, having blown the world away with his double duty on November Rain. Whilst not quite on that level, the Slither solo was still pretty spectacular.

Coming after a brief pause in the song, this sequence is Slash at his very finest. His fingers dance around the fretboard, wrenching every last note out of the strings as the rest of the band make a ruckus around him. The great man proved that he hadn’t lost a step, and although Velvet Revolver wouldn’t last, this song certainly has.
