10 Greatest Rock Music Guitar Solos Of The 2010s

9. I Guess I Just Feel Like - John Mayer

It’s hard to pin down which of the many solo guitar parts in John Mayer’s I Guess I Just Feel Like to mention for this list, as all of them are pretty fantastic.

The song comes from Taylor Swift’s most notorious ex’s 2021 album Sob Rock, but was actually released as a single two years earlier. In true Mayer fashion, it’s extremely chilled out, mixing modern indie sensibilities with classical blues-style playing.

Under duress, the solo that makes the list is the one that comes towards the end of the song, where the King of the Softbois really makes his instrument sing. The tone Mayer uses on his guitar is beautiful, a real throwback to rock ‘n’ roll’s early roots with a cleanliness to it that could have only been achieved in the modern day.

Mayer effortlessly dances around the fretboard, sprinkling notes with the authority of a master craftsman. It’s not big or showy, but it really fits the vibe of the song and is the perfect way to segue into the next track.

There’s more than one way to do a great solo.
