10 Greatest Rock Music Videos Of The 1990s

2. Weezer - Buddy Holly

Over time, Weezer seemed to prioritise making videos to making decent music. Their later efforts embraced comedy and novelty, and while the visuals remained fine, the tunes have been iffy - to be generous - for a long time now.

Back when Weezer were great, the sound and vision were both on point, and the result was a video like “Buddy Holly”. Another Spike Jones classic, it sees Weezer playing at Arnold's Drive-In from Happy Days, with footage from the show blended in to create an audience.

The band, Rivers Cuomo especially, look fantastic in the period garb, and have the stiff movements of a ‘50s combo down pat. The combination of old and new is perfectly reflected by the song itself, ‘60s and ‘70s-influenced power pop but with knowing, modern references.

The band even managed to have Fonzie and Ron Howard bopping along to their tunes - you can’t ask for much more than that.
