10 Greatest Screams In Rock Music History

6. Hey Jude - Beatles

On the list of the greatest screamers in rock and roll, there's a good chance that none of the Beatles belong in that company. For every band like Judas Priest that have been known to get gutteral with their voice, these were the cleaner lads of rock and roll, with the Fab Four writing love songs and treading the line between pop and rock perfectly. These guys were also fans of Little Richard though, and Paul McCartney took some time to throw down at the end of Hey Jude.

While the original idea for the song was just a sweet way of Paul comforting John Lennon's son Julian after his parents' divorce, the star of the show is the back half of the song, being just one long outro of Paul riffing on different vocal lines for the hell of it. Having no real lyrics aside from the nanana chorus line, Paul sounds like he's trying to tear apart his own throat on this song, singing along to 'Jude' as the rest of the orchestra follows him throughout the song.

You can tell that he's really pushing it too, since the last few go arounds of the chorus he sings stuff like 'OH GOD' as he reaches further and further in the back of his throat. So next time you call the Cute Beatle the softest member of the group, just remember that the guy who wrote silly love songs like For No One and She's Leaving Home can still lay down the gauntlet when he wants to.
