10 Greatest Shock Rock Acts
2. The Stooges
Throughout the 60's, the idea of a rock band was still a fairly new invention, with the attention focused on the collective band rather than one member. With the Stooges, the rock world was hit with ferocious hard rock that hit with the power of a wrecking ball.
As Stooges frontman Iggy Pop led the charge, the rock world got its first authentic wild man. The songs off the first Stooges records were menacing diatribes like "Search and Destroy" and "I Wanna Be Your Dog," with wisps of danger flowing through every word coming from Pop's mouth.
What really set these songs in motion were the live shows, where Iggy was known to deliver his primal singing to the audience by walking on people's hands through the crowd. The feeling throughout these gigs were so uninhibited that Iggy was known to cut himself throughout each song, leaving his torso severely bloodied by the end of each performance.
Even after the Stooges' implosion, Iggy lived up to his wildman reputation by living the excessive lifestyle and delivering great singles like "Lust For Life." Now that the Stooges have reformed, the fire rages on as Iggy proceeds to approach every live show with intensity oozing from every orifice.
