10 Greatest Shows In Rock History

3. Metallica with San Francisco Symphony

There is definitely some unwritten rules about the different genres of the music world. While genres like metal and classical music might excite their audiences for completely different reasons, forcing them both together doesn't always make for the best fit. In Metallica's case though, their performance with the San Francisco Symphony proved that the clean and dirty sides of music can play along nicely.

Originating in the mind of orchestrator Michael Kamen, Metallica had been flirting with the idea of doing a concert with an orchestra ever since using classical accompaniment for Nothing Else Matters. That doesn't mean that they lost their edge once they took to the stage with the classical musicians, with tracks like Master of Puppets and One being blown up to even more epic proportions in this setting. For any of the more classic Metallica fans, even the songs from Load like Bleeding Me and Devil's Dance sound amazing in this setting, giving them the punch that the studio versions were lacking.

Also, for anyone of your friends that thinks that metal is just noise, this version of the Call of Ktulu might just shut them up, opening the show with 10 minutes of instrumental badassery. While no one could have seen St. Anger coming right after this, this is still one of the greatest shows that the harsher side of rock has ever witnessed.
