10 Greatest Tribute Albums In Hard Rock
1. Made In Heaven - Queen
The idea of replacing someone like Freddie Mercury is something that you don't even come close to thinking about. Even though Queen still take to the stage time and again with powerhouses like Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert, it's understood that the high bar that Freddie set for every rock frontman going forward isn't going to be filled any time soon. While some might try to bow out gracefully, any other artist would consider themselves lucky to go out on Made in Heaven.
Up until his final days, Mercury was always working on new music, figuring that it would give him something to do rather than waste away in his house with the AIDs virus slowly killing him. Crafted as both a tribute and a proper album, Made in Heaven was the result of the rest of the band taking the unfinished material that Mercury made and turning them into Queen songs.
Along with Brian May's touch on songs like Too Much Love Will Kill You, you can feel the spirit of Freddie trying desperately to hold on, down to his gut wrenching final performance on the song Mother Love. For as much as Mercury had given us during his life, Made in Heaven shows that even in his final hours, there was no one else who could touch him.
