10 Greatest Unplugged Rock Songs
1. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Led Zeppelin
Up until this point, a lot of the songs that we've gone over tend to be about bringing things down. Yes, all of these songs do fall within the confines of rock, but they don't really have the same stomp as something like Johnny B Goode, do they?
Even though acoustics aren't really known for their harsh sound, Led Zeppelin managed to kick open the door on their first step up to the plate on Babe I'm Gonna Leave You.
Since this was a cover of an old folk tune popularized by Joan Baez, you'd think that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page would stay true to the original. And that's pretty much what they do for the first portion of the song, until the breakdown sees Jimmy starting to trade his delicate picking for a fast paced riff.
In fact, the song almost teases you from the moment it starts, luring you in with the riff before the darkness really comes in.
By the time they hit the actual solo, Bonzo's drums kick everything else into high gear, making his cymbals beg for mercy as they charge towards the end of the song. While Zeppelin were always known to have their tender moments, they could still pull off a harsh beat like it was nobody's business.
