10 Greatest Unsung Heroes In Rock And Roll

9. Owen Morris - Oasis

As Oasis first got the ball rolling, they had a ton of charisma and not a lot to show for it. When they first made their way into the studio to cut Definitely Maybe, their claims of being the biggest band in the world seemed to be coming up pretty short, with one session after another sounding worse than the next. After going through rerecording the album twice over, they eventually met the man who would give them the sound they were looking for.

Having already had a history in the world of British indie music, Owen Morris was the one who really brought out the size of Oasis in the studio. Since most of the complaints from their last sessions was how thin it sounded, Morris was able to capture the energy of the band playing live onstage, with the guitars especially kicking you in the face from the first time you hear them.

This also came in handy with the arrangements as well, where Owen would casually turn Bonehead up in the mix instead of Noel and making sure every long jam was calculated, like breaking up the riffs on the back half of the song Columbia. While it might have been just rock and roll from the Gallaghers' perspective, the sound that Morris created was more than just a barrage of noise. This was the kind of music that could move something in your soul whenever you turned it up.
