10 Guitar Solos That Changed The Face Of Rock Music Forever

6. Time - Pink Floyd

There's never an easy way to cherry pick songs off a record like Dark Side of the Moon. The members of Pink Floyd had always envisioned this record to be best taken in as a whole than a collection of singles, and the only way to really soak in the experience is hearing these songs bleed into each other, hearing Roger Waters talk about the fragility of humanity. Time is something that all of us can relate to though, and David Gilmour's solo puts us in a world that is slipping away.

Looking back on the lyrics, Roger had talked about wanting to capture the spirit of someone lounging around in their youth only to just realize that their time on this Earth is slipping away, and the solo is no different, almost crying out in pain with different bends, adding a different layer of drama to the piece. Even though there are no words during this section, it's easy to see this as a musical version of seeing your life tick away, as David's guitar gets serene in spots, almost like you're caught in a daydream in your headphones until he comes screaming back in to tell you just how much life has passed you by.

For an album that's centered around our own mortality, there's something oddly human about hearing this solo, like David condensed all of the emotional dread that comes with looking death in the face and trying to live life to the fullest. Time may be slipping away even as you read this right now, but for those brief moments during the solo, it feels like everything in life comes to a standstill.
